Salay is situated 70 km to the south of Bagan in the central Myanmar .It is a small active port .But it has so many religious monuments .Historically,it was just an active port city in the olden time and still its port is active and important.As the city was quite prosperous in the olden days , a quite number of wood and brick religious monuments were built over 13 centuries .Nowadays,it is famous for the birth place of the poet and play –writer monk “U Pone Nya “ in 19 centuries .He was considered as the William Shake Spear of England at that time .All his poems and plays were taught in the schools as the best plays of Myanmar 19 centuries literature .Moreover,it has enormous cultural heritage of Myanmar monarchy period of 19 and 13 centuries such as wood monasteries, Bagan Era temples and some colonial houses. Especially it is famous for” Yoke Sone monastery “, the over 100 years old wood monastery decorated with intricate wood carving.It is the most interesting place to discover in Salay .Now it converted into a archeological museum and the interesting old items are displayed inside .On the way to Salay . village life of rural area will be discovered .Thus Salay is more or less an interesting palace to visit .
