Taunggyi is situated 37 km from Inle lake and located on the 1400 m above sea level .Taunggyi is the fifth biggest city of Myanmar and the capital city of Shan state .It is cold and prosperous city .Historically ,the city was firstly founded in Taunggyi by the British during the colonial time replacing the small village of Shan .Taunggyi means "Big Mountain " representing "the high mountain where it exists " .The mountain of Taunggui city is one of the highest mountain in the area and the weather of the town is cool all the seasons .Topologically ,it is mainly inhabited by Shan(the mjor tribe of the Shan state ) , Pa O and other minor tribes .Shan and Pa O are the majorities .Generally ,Taunggyi is not the major tourist destination in Myanmar.Sometimes we pass Taunggyi to visit Kakku pagoda and Inle lake .in the city, there is central market , universities and some pagodas together with some old churches of the British time .There is one famous festival ,the hot air balloon festival which celebrates the end of the Buddhist lent .It is held in November (the full moon day ) and the festival is really amazing with hot air balloon competitions day and night .During the festival time . the city is so crowded and all guest house and hotel are full.The best time to see Taunggyi is during the hot air balloon festival locally called "Thazaung Daing festival "
